Projektraum Coswig- Karne Kunst
Projektraum Coswig is a space dedicated to experimentation, research, and dissemination of artistic practices in which local and international artists converge, located in the historic center of Coswig (Anhalt), on the banks of the Elbe River in Germany.
It is a way of doing and understanding culture rooted in the territory but with international projection. A creative space encourages art, collaborative culture, and artists of all genres, especially those with no place in traditional institutional spaces such as theaters, museums, or galleries.
It also aims to be a platform for the dissemination of innovative experiences. Projektraum Coswig is a laboratory that will build its identity as it is inhabited. The variety of activities is immense: workshops, artistic residencies, meetings, creative experiences, exhibitions, etc.
We offer what we have: a unique space with facilities for all kinds of activities, prioritizing the collective, as well as common spaces to facilitate exchange and social interaction between artists and the community.
In exchange, we are looking for proposals that bring a fresh look to cultural creation. We are open to projects that enhance the artistic discourse, focusing on the process, collaboration, and interaction with the community.
The stays are aimed at all those people: groups of artists, researchers, creators of any field, whether performing arts, visual arts, literature, dance, technology, science, and others who want to develop their project in an inspiring environment, in nature and open to the exchange and dialogue.
1- About Coswig (Anhalt)
Saxony-Anhalt is considered the heart of German history. No less than five UNESCO World Heritage Sites are concentrated here in a very small area: the town of Quedlinburg with its half-timbered houses, the Luther sites in Eisleben and Wittenberg, the Bauhaus and the Masters’ Houses in Dessau, as well as the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom and Naumburg Cathedral. Unique landscapes such as the Harz National Park, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Mittel Elbe, and a well-developed network of routes make Saxony-Anhalt a good address for active vacationers and nature lovers. For example, you are invited to cycle along the Elbe Cycle Route, hike on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg, go canoeing in the Saale-Unstrut wine region, and spend a horseback riding vacation in the Altmark and go on pilgrimage tours on the St. James Pilgrimage Route or on the Luther Way. We recommend other nearby excursion destinations: Wörlitzer Park (castle, gondola ride, Falkenhof) Dessau (Bauhaus Museum, Masters’ Houses, Kornhaus, zoo) Lutherstadt Wittenberg (Lutherhaus, Castle Church, Hundertwasser School, Butterfly Park, Museum of the GDR)
2- Workspaces
>>> 1 workspace of 61 m2 + 1 workspace of 63 m2
A space for the exhibition of projects by residents or external organizers. These two spaces can work separately or together, creating a large room for open activities. Both have large windows facing the main street of Coswig, with two access doors and natural and fluorescent lights. There is also a small hall to receive and accredit attendees and a side patio where you can take breaks, enjoy a coffee break or get some fresh air to continue the activity inside. It has minimal technical equipment: beamer, mini photo studio, etc., and great support from Karne Kunst, backed by its experience as an avant-garde cultural initiative.
>>> Common areas and services.
Recreation areas: patio, garden, and rooms with wifi, mail reception service, and basic supplies. (electricity, water, and light).
>>> Workshop 34 m2 + Workshop 24 m2 (In development)
Open workspace suitable for workshop use. Appropriate for visual arts and multimedia projects. They have concrete floors (no linoleum). With brick walls, windows to the main courtyard, natural light, fluorescent lights, and curtains
>>> Rustic garden 1000 m2
Our beautiful backyard garden is a relaxing place for outdoor projects, activities, and any creative and safe use.
>>> The Hof
A 40 m2 central courtyard is the heart of the space, linking the workspaces with the exhibition spaces, and is the gateway to the garden. Ideal for lounging, socializing, and sharing but can also be used as a reception area when opening the workspaces to the public (open atelier) or for classes or outdoor activities.

The region of Sachsen Anhalt is eager to receive new artistic proposals! We suggest applying for funding from cultural organizations in the area. From Projektraum Coswig, we can provide both letters of invitation and application advice.
5- Selection criteria
Projects that include one or more of the following aspects will be positively evaluated:
– The quality of the artistic proposal.
– The project’s suitability to the residency space and its technical viability.
– Self-financing possibilities. If necessary, Projektraum may accredit its support through a letter of invitation.
– The project’s potential links with Sachsen Anhalt’s community (exhibitions, community activities, lectures, open ateliers, artist talks, etc.).
– The possibility of exploring new forms of artistic production, exhibition, and participation, prioritizing processes and exchange, and promoting collaborative and community methodologies.
– The transdisciplinarity and willingness to connect with other sectors (scientific, academic, etc.).
Other considerations
- Dates and residency spaces are subject to availability.
- Projektraum Coswig will make every effort to adapt to each proposal’s technical and human needs, and these, in turn, must comply with its regulations.
- Those selected will sign a commitment to use the spaces and technical material.
- In the case of public presentation, those responsible will cede the rights of exploitation, reproduction, and exhibition for dissemination. And they must comply with the regulations on intellectual property. The rights of authorship always belong to the artist.
- All selected projects must include the logo of the Projektraum as a partner.
- Participation in the call for entries implies full acceptance of these rules, project submission requirements, and the selection committee’s decision. The decision of the selection committee is final.
- The Projektraum reserves the right to resolve anything not foreseen in these rules, including the possibility of revoking the selection committee’s decision if the development of the projects does not comply with the objectives and requests of this call and the regulations of the Projektraum.
